We understand that taking time away from work for parental or carer's responsibilities is an important life event. RACGP supports members during this time with a six-month membership fee waiver.
Eligibility
Eligible members are those who:
- intend to be on parental or carer's leave for a period of at least 6 months, during which they will not be practising.
- hold an Australian medical registration.
- reside in Australia
GP Registrars in a training program
If you’ve already applied for and approved training leave through your program, there’s no need to complete this form—we’ve got it covered.
If you haven’t yet applied, please speak with your training coordinator or refer to the RACGP Training Program Leave Policy or the Practice Experience Program – Specialist Stream Leave Policy for application guidance.
How to apply
Every parental leave journey is different, so we've made it simple and flexible for you to apply for a fee waiver. You can apply at any time during your parental leave period and up to three months after you return to work—whatever works best for you.
To apply, just complete the form below and upload one of the following documents:
- A certificate from a medical practitioner or government authority
- A valid birth certificate
- Foster or adoption documentation
- Permanent care orders
Membership
- Eligible members receive a six-month membership fee waiver.
- Any existing credits will be automatically applied when you return to work or after the six-month entitlement period, whichever comes first.
- After your leave ends, full or concession fees will apply as per RACGP membership criteria.
- If you return to work earlier than six months, you may be eligible for a pro-rata membership. Please email us at membership@racgp.org.au.
Conditions
Members granted a fee waiver in their membership per this policy will have full access to membership benefits, including:
- CPD learning platform and face-to-face education
- Member communications and updates
- GP Support Program
- Voting rights in college elections
- Participation in faculties, councils, and special interest groups
Continuity of membership, for lifetime membership, will not be affected.
CPD Exemption:
The Medical Board of Australia (MBA) sets regulations around exemption or variation to CPD. RACGP members must apply for CPD exemption or variation as per the CPD Exemption or Variation Policy.
